Cheshire Police and Wilmslow Way Better

Lisa recently attended a session hosted by Cheshire Police and Wilmslow Way Better is encouraging all local businesses to sign up to both DISC and SCOOT. As part of the national Safer Business Week of Action from 10 to 16 November, local businesses were invited to a short meeting at Wilmslow Police Station to learn more.

DISC

DISC is a secure, app-based incident reporting and information sharing system used by towns and business groups across the UK. It lets businesses quickly report theft, abuse, anti-social behaviour and suspicious activity direct to the police and other local stores. Businesses can also see alerts about offenders, share intelligence and stay updated on repeat issues. The aim is to reduce crime through fast communication and consistent reporting.

With DISC now live in Wilmslow, this session showed businesses how to get the most from the system. It covered how to report incidents, how to share intelligence with other stores and how using DISC can help reduce crime across the town. The police team also explained how the SCOOT scheme works and how consistent reporting helps enforce bans across participating businesses. The DISC service has been funded by Wilmslow BID and is completely free for all BID members.

SCOOT

SCOOT is the Shopwatch style exclusion scheme used in Cheshire. When a person is banned from one participating store because of theft or abuse, that ban can apply across all stores that are part of SCOOT. This creates a shared approach to dealing with repeat offenders and helps protect staff by supporting each other through a collective ban system.

The meeting included a short presentation on reporting processes including NICE and facial recognition, information packs were shared.

RADIO LINK

Businesses also have the opportunity to sign up to a new ultra-high frequency security radio network, linked to the local CCTV control room. *The price for the radio link will be £20 per month (*with the first 2 month free) and only available for BID members.

Businesses are encouraged to learn how DISC, Radio link and SCOOT can support staff, improve communication and help create a safer business community in Wilmslow.
