Welcome to the Wilmslow Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID)

We are a group of private sector led companies planning a £1 million+ BID investment into Wilmslow town centre between 2022 and 2027.

Our plan will deliver three core objectives:

  • ‘Way Better’ Marketing and Town Centre Promotion for Wilmslow
  • ‘Way Better’ Experience for consumers and visitors to Wilmslow town centre.
  • ‘Way Better’ Business Leadership and Support

In 2021 we reached out to companies across Wilmslow town centre consulting about the opportunities and challenges linked to operating a business in the town centre.

Wilmslow Town Centre

The consultation identified a range of opportunities to improve Wilmslow town centre, focusing on:

  • Delivering better and improved marketing for Wilmslow own centre and it’s amazing business community;
  • A new programme of business led events and activities to animate the town centre;
  • Tackling crime and anti-social behaviour issues reported by companies and consumers;
  • Environmental improvements to lift the image and quality of environment for consumers and visitors;
  • Providing businesses with a new opportunity to have their voice heard about matters affecting the development of Wilmslow town centre.

Developing the proposal for a Business Improvement District

The funding for development of a draft plan for a BID has come from Wilmslow Town Council, who have also provided time limited funding for a new town centre management service that has delivered support for companies following the covid pandemic.

This service has created a new town centre brand (www.wilmslowswaybetter.co.uk), promoted opportunities for companies to access grants / business support and co-ordinated a series of events and activities to encourage consumers back into the town centre. The service has also brought together a new Town Centre Management Group of businesses to lead the development of improvements and enhancements.

The Town Centre Management Group are now working in partnership with Groundwork, using the funding from Wilmslow Town Council to develop our proposal for a Business Improvement District (BID).

BIDs have successfully delivered sustainable investment and improvements in a range of towns and city centre locations across the Northwest (Altrincham, Northwich and Manchester City Centre), with more than 300 BIDs operating across the UK.

To enable the Town Centre Management Group to understand the priority projects and services that a BID could deliver in Wilmslow, a draft BID Proposal has been developed and is now being shared with eligible businesses during March and April 2022 for consultation (closes 4th April 2022).
